Obama Swears In

Sorry to post this but it was too amusing not to share.
In Obama’s autobiography he quotes a friend who used to swear a lot. Obama read’s the audiobook version of his own book.
(I’m not saying swearing is good/bad or that Obama is therefore good/bad because of this. However I’m still childish enough that this makes me giggle like an idiot…)
That photo was taken around the time that I became a fan of Obama, during his run for the Senate from Illinois.
The place is Metropolis, Illinois, which is a very small town at the very southern tip of the state, and it also happens to be where I am registered to vote. The courthouse is behind Superman there. As a little bit of background the region Metropolis is in, Massac County, is one of the most conservative counties in the State, and is usually a safe Republican district; the sort of place where primary elections are more important than the general election because whoever has the “R” in front of their name is going to win.
As an aside I have attended many evenings when my Step-Dad and others play Bluegrass and Country music for old people just about 50 feet to Mr. Obama’s right in that photo.
I myself was not in town when at that time Rep. Obama visited, but my Mother and my Step-Dad were, and they were bowled over. Not only them, but apparently the whole town. The very notion that a Democrat, and especially a black Democrat from Chicago could get these folks excited made me want to research this guy, and so I read everything I could find about him, and continued to do so right up through the election. I was impressed, and still am.
What Mr. Obama has done was supposed to be impossible for at least another 50 years, but there it is. Let’s see what else he can do.
As for the pose, it is a sort of local tradition. You’re supposed to do that in Metropolis. Most politicians don’t have the nerve or the sense of humor. If you go to Metropolis you will be encouraged by the owner of the comic book store just behind the photographer in this scene to do the same pose.

Mark, thanks for reminding me where that is. I was there many many years ago when I was much younger. I live in Chicago so of course we have Obamamania. I wasn’t a supporter as I am typically and “R”
But this time I went with the “L” 
I am hoping he does big things, just to show everyone that Illinois can produce 1 person who isn’t corrupt or going to prison from cushy government job 
I did find the recordings funny myself, and so did my parents who absolutely love the O!
