the internet is leaking

Ipswich!

Finally BT managed to get us an internet and telephone connection so I have internet in my flat and MP5 is once again on the internet!
I’ve updated the header on my website which used to be the Edinburgh skyline to the Ipswich skyline. A nicer picture for a worse skyline :D .
I’ve also made it so if you are using Firefox/Konqueror/Opera/other compatible browser the page transitions on my site now use Ajax to avoid retrieving the header and footer multiple times.

I’ve settled down here reasonably well. I’ve got a good bunch of lads at work including two fellow Scottish legends. I was surprised by the connection I feel to them, I can notice distinct cultural differences in how we interact compared to their English counterparts, so it is nice to feel like I’ve still got a bit of home around.

The flat is really nice with ethernet running in the walls and an iPod connector to ceiling speakers (useless gimmick but, as I have an iPod, is quite cool). It is slap-bang in the centre of town to is idle which is ideal for everything except getting to work which involves a 7 mile cycle each way. A good way of keeping fit I guess!

I’ve found a church for myself: Burlington Baptist. The people are friendly, the sermons biblical and interesting and the band talented and God-focused so I feel it is the right place for me at the moment. Being five minutes from my flat helps too ;)

There are only three real downsides to my move down.
Firstly, I really, really, really miss Lindsay. It is hard only seeing her once a month but we should get to see each other more in the holidays. Every day I look forward to when she graduates and we can be together properly for good :)
Secondly, I miss my church and my friends from Edinburgh. To any of you reading this, thanks guys for being amazing people and I’ll be up the weekend commencing the 2nd of November.
Lastly, I haven’t really had time or resources to do any KDE work yet. Life has been hectic with socialising and work which, combined with the lack of a reliable internet connection, has meant I’ve done practical no coding outside of work whilst I’ve been down here. This is something I hope to amend, there are parts of KOrganiser that still crave my love :)

Anyway, it is a stupid time to be blogging. The insane two-month delay since my last post will not be repeated, I hope to keep people updated a couple of times a week now assuming events are interesting enough to justify it!

“…town is idle…”

Now that is something that could be taken out of context and cause cultural disagreements!

Great to see you back on the blog chat – I look forward to a more regular boost to my geek-awareness.

Peace
