A degree and a job!

After a long time of no blogging I can return gloriously with announcing what I’m up to next year.
I managed to attain a 2:1 in Computer and Management Science which means I’ve managed to definitely secure my position at British Telecom next year working as a Software Engineer writing C++ and/or Java.
This involves moving down to England to work in BT’s offices down there. Having never lived anywhere except Edinburgh (except for a brief stint at Strathallan School outside Perth) this will be a fairly big change but should go OK. I don’t really know many people down there and am moving in with a coursemate so it should be a fairly exciting experience!
I think my blogging has been lapsing lately due to, other than having huge amounts of work with exams, having such big news such as my job, which I haven’t really felt comfortable telling people until I’m 100% sure, as there would be nothing worse than having to tell people that I didn’t make it after all. ![]()
Surprisingly I’m not actually that worried about the move. Lindsay and I have worked out how we are going to see each other and I’ve found a flatmate and my manager seems like a good bloke. The biggest worry at the moment is just hoping I’ll be able to run Linux on my work machine!
Bed beckons but, with free time finally arriving, I suspect my blogging should be more regular.

Mike,
Welcome back – congrats on the degree!! Excellent work, my friend.
I look forward to reading of your exploits in the IP-Switch (see what I did there?!) but suspect you might struggle to get BT to run Linux, but give it a shot!
Peace
W
It’s not so much trying to get BT to run Linux as them just letting me to run it on my machine, which is a bit more likely!
