Mike – Exams = Happy
May 12, 2006 at 02:46 by Mike McQuaid
It’s been a busy (almost) 2 weeks since I last posted. I’ve had 5 exams, making up a third of my degree, markwise. I also managed to miss an exam through the timings changing, without any notification, since my study plan was formed. The course is 6% of the year, and I get 0 for the exam if I’m not allowed to resit, so anybody of the praying persuasion, I would appreciate a few words in my favour! I’ve also had the aforementioned job interview at Wolfson Microelectronics, which seemed to go really well. I was tested on my Computer Architecture, Operating Systems, C and Linux knowledge, and apparently got all the questions right, and a few of the bonus ones, so I’m pretty happy. Should find out on Monday whether I have got it or not. I was told they only interviewed a “few” people, and I did everything “right” in the interview, so I will be disappointed if I don’t get it, but not beat myself up, as I reckon, if I don’t get it, it will come down to someone else having more C experience.
I also applied for a Google Summer of Code project for Gentoo, improving support for the GNU Java interpreter and compiler in Portage, the Gentoo package manager, and trying to get stuff like Azureus and Eclipse working nicely.
I’ve got (assuming I don’t get my SoC project) about a month of chilling time, 3 weeks of bumming around, doing voice acting, a bit of C/PHP coding for fun, playing Deus Ex AGAIN, preparing for and owning at a LAN party, reading Linus Torvald’s autobiography and generally trying to relax. Then, I’ve got 10 days away with my beautiful girlfriend to somewhere in Italy, I’m not quite sure where (she knows, but I don’t really mind where we go, so don’t really remember these things).
As a post exam treat, I decided to buy a new monitor, keyboard and mouse. I justified it by the sheer amount of desk space I have gained, which should make me a bit tidier and more productive.
Better hit the sack, and thanks for anyone who knowingly or unknowingly has been praying for me, or generally thinking of me during my exams. This stressful time of year has been amazingly stress-free and I’ve had some pretty amazing things happen in some exams, so thank you all, and good luck for any of you who still have exams to go.
G’Night.
